Symphony No 7 by Gustav Mahler, (great world known com-poser who was born in Bohemia), was premiered in Prague on Saturday 19th September, 1908 at 7 p.m.. The Exhibition Orchestra was conducted by composer and conductor himself. Before that it was heard at the general rehearsal, as well as by the public. Prague, the Jubilee Exhibition and the Czech Philharmonic as part of the Exhibition Orchestra made music history. Otto Klemperer said later that Mahler had run 24 re-hearsals before the premiere. This is the live recording of Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra with Jiří Stárek from Gustav Mahler Festival in Jihlava. Jiří Stárek graduated in conducting from the Prague Academy where his teachers were Václav Talich and Karel Ančerl. From 1953 to 1968 he was Czech Radio conductor ( from 1964 on chief conductor ) .
